18 Years of Leadership and Success

  • As a mayor and councilman, Jason supported rolling back the Tybee millage rate for all 14 years in office.

  • Jason supported and maintained a $200,000 homestead exemption for Tybee residents.

  • As mayor from 2006 to 2019, despite weathering the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression and two hurricanes, Jason led the effort to build Tybee’s fund balance from next to nothing when he started as mayor to almost an entire year’s worth of reserves.

  • Jason worked with a committed team of volunteers to jumpstart the creation of the Tybee Island Maritime Academy Charter School, which is now an extremely successful K-5 school for kids in our county.
  • Jason worked with elected officials at the county, state and federal level to make upgrades to Tybee’s beach and dune system, which protects the community from the adverse effects of hurricanes.

  • Working with his council members as mayor, Tybee made major upgrades to its water, sewer and drainage systems and improved its parks and recreation facilities.

  • Under Jason’s leadership, Tybee built its police force and fire fighting capacity to ensure that residents and visitors are safe.

  • Working with Tybee’s dedicated staff, Tybee was able to significantly reduce flood insurance premiums through the federal flood insurance community rating system.
